2001 Chevrolet Impala Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: To replace the Thermostat, one should first remove the air cleaner intake duct, then partially drain the cooling system. Remove the hose clamp using hose clamp pliers (J 38185), and put it back in place to reposition the hose clamp from the water outlet housing. Then remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing. Next, remove the exhaust crossover pipe and the bolts of the water outlet house; then remove water outlet house and the gasket. Remove the Thermostat and clean the mating surfaces of the water outlet. In installation, begin by fixing the Thermostat and then followed by fitting of water outlet gasket and housing. Mount the water outlet housing bolts tightening to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs) and re-mounting the exhaust crossover pipe and radiator inlet hose on to the water outlet housing. Deploy the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) once more to move and attach the hose clamp to the water outlet protection housing, after which place back the air cleaner intake duct. Lastly, fill up the cooling system and check for leaks.
