2001 Chevrolet Malibu Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The necessary tool for outer Tie Rod End replacement consists of universal steering linkage puller (J24319-B). Start by removing the tire followed by the wheel before dislodging the outer tie rod ball stud nut while loosening its jam nut . The universal steering linkage puller (J24319-B) will help detach the outer tie rod ball stud from the Steering Knuckle. You should inspect the inner tie rod shaft by removing the Tie Rod End before starting the replacement process. Proper cleaning must take place on the tapered knuckle surface before moving on with installation tasks. The new Tie Rod End should be installed onto the inner tie rod shaft first before attaching the outer tie rod ball stud to the Steering Knuckle. Use a new prevailing torque nut to attach the outer tie rod ball stud to the Steering Knuckle with a torque of 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Following this, the nut needs a 180-degree rotational sequence. The procedure ends with reinstalling the tire and wheel along with adjusting the front toe then securing the jam nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.).
