2002 Buick LeSabre Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2002 Buick LeSabre?
A: Before starting to change the front brake pads check the master cylinder brake fluid level. If it lies between the mid-mark and top part of the reservoir refill it to maintain a safe operating level lift the vehicle and take off its wheel and tire before starting work. Put the large c-clamp across the caliper piston to push it into the container chamber. Push the caliper over the brake rotor before taking away the c-clamp. Before continuing you must remove the bottom brake caliper pin bolt and secure the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire to avoid damaging the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Push up the caliper body until it secures in place and keep the Hydraulic Hose attached. After compressing the piston with a second large c-clamp and a wood block, you should remove both tools while keeping the clamp steady. Examine the components at the caliper bracket by removing brake pads both inside and outside the unit. Look for damage on caliper bolt suspension boots and replace them while inspecting caliper pin bolts for corrosion with new replacements when necessary. Niglube grease the front brake caliper pin bolts before fitting both brake pads and their retainers into the caliper bracket assembly. Release the caliper over the pads below and slot in the lower brake caliper pin bolt. Tighten it to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). Replace the tire assembly and drop the vehicle onto the ground before applying the Brake Pedal just 2/3 of the way until slowly releasing it. As the engine turns off, press and release the Brake Pedal fourteen times. This step ensures that the brake pistons and pads contact the right spots. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir until it reaches the right mark and smooth out Brake Pad surfaces using the rotors.
