Safety glasses serve as essential equipment during centerpunching and drilling of shock absorbers while avoiding tube punctures on these units. Insert the first centerpunch mark 50 mm (2 inch) above the top of the tube followed by a second mark 25 mm (1.0 inch) from the tube base. Secure the shock absorber horizontally within a vise while the shock absorber rod extends completely. Use a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit to drill at the first centerpunch mark while allowing gas or gas/oil mixture to exhaust through shop towels covering the oil leakage. Execute the same operation at the second centerpunch mark using the drill bit to discharge oil through the opened channel. To completely drain the oil workers must remove the shock absorber from the vise before holding it horizontally with the drain pan under the holes allowing them to push and pull the rod through the tube.
