Service of the Fuel Pressure Regulator begins with removal of both upper intake manifold assembly and Fuel Pressure Regulator retainer clip. Pull and twist the Fuel Pressure Regulator with a shop towel beneath it to detach it from the Fuel Pressure Regulator housing. Start the replacement by first removing the regulator seal lower o-ring, the regulator assembly filter along with the regulator seal upper o-ring and the regulator seal back up ring. Discard all o-rings. Before reinstalling the Fuel Pressure Regulator check the filter screen for damage since replacement of the regulator may be required. Begin by applying clean engine oil to the new o-rings, and proceed with installation of the regulator seal back up ring followed by regulator seal upper o-ring followed by regulator assembly filter then finally regulator seal lower o-ring. The regulator assembly goes together by positioning the vacuum tube downward into the retainer clip before installing both Fuel Pressure Regulator retainer clip and upper manifold assembly. Verify the absence of leaks by first turning on the ignition with power off for two seconds subsequently turning power off for ten seconds then checking for another two seconds with the ignition on but the engine off. During these inspections check for fuel system leaks. Finally, install the engine cover.
