2004 Buick Rainier Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace a water pump on 2004 Buick Rainier?
A: The process begins with draining coolant before moving on to fan and shroud removal and Drive Belt removal. First secure the Water Pump Pulley with the j 41240 fan clutch wrench (J 41240) before removing the Water Pump Pulley bolts using this tool. Remove the Water Pump Pulley before unfastening the Water Pump bolts for Water Pump extraction. Check and clean the Water Pump before discarding and replacing its gasket. Install a new Water Pump gasket, then position the Water Pump and secure it with the bolts, tightening them to 4 nm (35 inch lbs.) on the initial pass and 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) on the final pass. Using the j 41240 tool to secure the pulley, install the Water Pump Pulley bolts and tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First remove j 41240 then add the Drive Belt followed by the fan and finally add the shroud. Complete the cooling system filling process by adding specified coolant concentration followed by leak inspection tests.
