2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?
A: Vehicle placement at a raised position becomes essential before starting any work on Steering Knuckle replacement operations. Begin by removing the Wheel Hub and bearing and continue by taking out the upper Ball Joint and lower Ball Joint. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) allows outer tie rod removal from the Steering Knuckle following outer tie rod retaining nut and bracket removal. The park brake cable retaining bolt needs removing from the Steering Knuckle before extracting the Steering Knuckle from the vehicle. The new Steering Knuckle should be positioned on the vehicle before adding the upper along with the lower ball joints. The park brake cable retaining bolt needs installation into the Steering Knuckle and requires tightening to 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs.). The installation order begins with the Wheel Hub and bearing followed by tightening the outer tie rod retaining nut to 55 nm (40 ft. Lbs.) and concluding with the outer tie rod retaining bracket to 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs.). After reattaching the tire and wheel the vehicle needs to be lowered and a four-wheel alignment needs to be performed.
