2006 Buick LaCrosse Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The replacement of Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End starts by securely supporting the vehicle then removing both tire and wheel assembly. The prevailing torque nut of the outer tie rod assembly should be removed first before you loosen the jam nut which secures the inner tie rod assembly. Wedge-driving a disconnected steering linkage joint between its joint and attached component leads to damage of seals which speeds up system failure. A technician should use universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to separate the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle. Break the bonding between outer tie rod assembly and inner tie rod assembly. The installation process requires attaching the outer tie rod assembly to the inner tie rod assembly while avoiding tightening of the jam nut at this step. First connect the outer tie rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle and secure the prevailing torque nut to it at 30 nm torque value with 120° turn while maintaining the nylon washer threads visible above the 2½-4½ range. After performing front end alignment return to install the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
