Drivers should start by placing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) into the lower access hole on the Steering Column. Take a marker to record the lower intermediate shaft's position as it relates to the power steering gear because you will need this information for reassembly. Use a socket to remove the retaining bolt which maintains the lower intermediate shaft connection to the power steering gear subsequently disconnect the shaft from the gear. To proceed with the disassembly start by taking out the bolt which holds the lower intermediate shaft to the intermediate shaft bearing and then separate the shaft from the bearing component. Remove the lower intermediate shaft from your vehicle. Secure the lower intermediate shaft inside the vehicle by connecting it to the intermediate shaft bearing. Fit the intermediate shaft bearing retaining bolt while tightening it to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Use marked lines for alignment before installing the lower intermediate shaft onto the power steering gear while securing it with the retaining bolt reaching 61 nm (45 ft. Lbs. Torque). The end of installation consists of removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower access hole.
