  • Q: How to replace the front brake disc (J56) on 2009 Cadillac STS?
    A: The first step in replacing the front Brake Disc (J56) is to check the fluid level in brake master cylinder reservoir; if it is in the half way position between maximum and minimum then remove fluid up to that half way position. Lift and replace the vehicle and take out the tire and the wheel assembly. Next, take off the brake caliper bolts and suspend the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire to avoid damage to the hydraulic flexible brake hose. After securing the caliper, unscrew and then remove the Brake Disc screw and the Brake Disc. Clean off all rust or contaminants from hub/axle flange, and Brake Disc mating faces using the j-42450-a - wheel hub resurfacing kit, as well as the j-41013 - rotor resurfacing kit. Mount the new Brake Disc and anchor it using the Brake Disc screw that should be fastened to 14 nm (124 lb in). Proceed with the reinstallation of the brake caliper ensuring that the threads of both the bolt and bolt holes are cleaned thoroughly using denatured alcohol, followed by applying a threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian PN 10953488) so that it extends for 2/3 of either side of the bolt that mounts the brake caliper to the knuckle. Make sure the threadlocker is not interrupted. Monitors the threadlocker to cure for about 10 minutes before installing the Brake Caliper Bolt & tightening them up to 130 nm (96lb ft). Lastly, reinstall the tire with its wheel assembly, and if the Brake Disc was refished or replaced or new brake pads installed then to burnish the brake pads and discs.
