The Oil Pan in car models such as Cadillac DeVille play the role of holding engine oil for effective lubrication and as a coolant for the other parts within the engine compartment. In a wet sump system which is commonly used in Cadillac DeVille models the Oil Pan receives the oil drawn through a Pickup Tube by the Oil Pump and circulates the oil around the engine then it returns to the pan. This design provides the necessary control of oil supply for the proper functioning of the engines. In the past Cadillac DeVille Oil Pans were made from stamped steel but today's Cadillac DeVille Oil Pans can be made from cast aluminum materials for stronger and better performance. Though the role stays pretty similar, the shift in material utilization results from development in car manufacturing technology which results to increased efficiency and durability for a variety of road conditions.

Cadillac DeVille Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on Cadillac DeVille?
    A:
To replace the Oil Pan, you should drain engine oil and remove front exhaust manifold pipe. Pull out the electrical connector of the engine oil level sensor and take the sensor out of the Oil Pan. Next, remove the Oil Pan bolts, remembering that the Oil Pan Gasket is reusable if not damaged, therefore make sure not to separate the Oil Pan Gasket from the groove in the Oil Pan unless you have to. Once you have taken off the Oil Pan, clean and inspect it. If it is necessary to change the Oil Pan seal, clean the groove for the seal of oil and then drive it into the groove of the pan from side to side. Postion the Oil Pan against the crankcase and then install the Oil Pan retaining bolts, tightening to 10 nm (89 inch lbs) in the sequence indicated. Install the engine oil level sensor into the Oil Pan and tighten it up to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Attach the electrical connector to the engine oil level sensor and the front exhaust manifold pipe. Finally pour oil into the engine and check out for leaks after starting the engine.
