The Fuel Tank of Chevrolet Traverse vehicles stores fuel and contains some of the electrical items such as the electric fuel pump and the fuel gauge sender. It incorporates fuel shuttles to reduce fuel movement and is a component in the Evaporative Emission Control System; it may be metallic or made of plastic. Metal tanks are sheet metal formed by pressing or stamping and then welded while the plastic tanks are blow-molded. Fuel tanks include corrosion, impact, and usage of extreme temperature. Fuel cells specifically used in racing are made in such a way that they cannot burst and spill the gas in the event of an accident. Large volume fuel reservoir available in military specification polymer form can augment driving range by 500 miles, and replace steel fuel tanks because of their protection against rust.

Chevrolet Traverse Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel tank module on Chevrolet Traverse?
    A:
Start the process of replacing the Fuel Tank module only after safety precautions are established including the wrapping of shop cloth over loose fuel line fittings and an approved fuel collection container. You must clean all fuel pipe and hose connections during disassembly and at this time avoid contaminating them. Acquire a new Fuel Tank module seal prior to initiating the task. The first step involves removing the Fuel Tank while disconnecting both the quick-connect fittings of the fuel pump fuel feed line and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent front pipe. First reposition the fuel lines to a safe location and then remove both electrical connectors which service the Fuel Tank pressure sensor along with the connectors which service the Fuel Tank module. Use j 45722 to handle the lock ring after installing it to the Fuel Tank module lock ring. A long breaker-bar can rotate the lock ring counterclockwise to unlock it. The lock ring and module can then be removed when raising the module, but avoid bending the Fuel Level Sensor float arm during this process. The module reservoir bucket should have its fuel contents discarded into an approved container before removing the Fuel Tank module seal. Before continuing with the procedure remove the Fuel Level Sensor if needed. Check the lock ring for damage; discard it if the warpage reaches more than 0.41 mm (0.016 in). During installation you should first put the Fuel Level Sensor and a fresh Fuel Tank module seal onto the Fuel Tank. The module must be tilted to expose the tank aperture before installation while adding the Fuel Tank module lock ring. J 45722 should be used to turn the ring clockwise before connecting the electrical connectors of the fuel sender wiring harness. Install both the fuel pump feed line and evap canister vent front pipe by connecting quick connect fittings and to the Fuel Tank module. Finally, reinstall the Fuel Tank.
