To remove the Starter motor on 4.8l/5.3l/6.0l engines, you will need to start by disconnecting the negative
Battery Cable. Lift and secure the vehicle and remove the cover bolt to the right if it is equipped. Remove the oil level sensor level electrical connector and Starter bolts. Slip the Starter forward until it clears the transmission and take the Starter solenoid nut off; then, the Starter lead from the solenoid stud and the positive cable from the Starter stud. Note: if the trans cover is attached to the Starter, remove it. Do so by unsnapping the trans cover from the Starter if equipped. If necessary remove the Starter shield. For installation (if applicable) mount Starter shield and snap in the transmission cover to the Starter if equipped. Connect the positive cable to the start stud connect the Starter lead nut and turn tighten to 10 nm (89 lb in). Next, connect the Starter solenoid lead to the solenoid stud, then use the solenoid nut tighten to 3.4 nm (30 lb in.). Push the Starter backwards, tighten the Starter bolts to 50 nm (37 lb ft) and install the right transmission cover bolt, if equipped to 9 nm (80 lb in). Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector after that; lower the vehicle, and finally, connect the negative Battery Cable.
