Axle Shaft oil seal or bearing include: slide hammer with adapter (J 2619-01), driver handle (J 8092), axle shaft and pinion oil seal installer (J 21128), axle shaft bearing remover (large shaft) (J 23689), axle shaft bearing installer (J 23690), axle shaft bearing installer (9 1/2 inch ring gear) (J 29709), axle shaft bearing remover (9 1/2 inch ring gear) (J 29712), and Axle Shaft seal installer (9 The necessary tools for replacing rear Axle Shaft oil seals and bearings include Slide Hammer with Adapter (J 2619-01) and driver handle (J 8092) as well as Axle Shaft and pinion oil seal installer (J 21128) and three axel bearing tools: axle shaft bearing remover (large shaft) (J 23689), axle shaft bearing installer (J 23690), and Axle Shaft bearing installer (9 1/2 inch ring gear) (J 29709) paired with Axle Shaft bearing remover (9 1/2 inch ring gear) (J Start by elevating the vehicle on a hoist to safety positions and remove all components including the tire assembly and
Brake Drum and axle carrier cover. Extract the Differential case screw with the pinion shaft, then disassemble or limit pinion shaft movement when working on locking differentials. Push the Axle Shaft flange towards the Differential by rotating a screwdriver on the lock until alignment with the thrust block then remove the Axle Shaft. Check the condition of each part before replacing any worn-out elements. For an 8-9/8 inch ring gear axle use the Axle Shaft Bearing Remover (J 23689) while a 9 1/2 inch ring gear axle requires the Axle Shaft bearing remover (9 1/2 inch ring gear) (J 29712) for seal removal. Use the slide hammer with adapter (J 2619-01) through the adapter to pull the bearing from its position. For installation use the Axle Shaft bearing installer j 23690 for 8 5/8 inch ring gear axles with the Axle Shaft bearing installer j 29709 for 9 1/2 inch ring gear axles while using the Axle Shaft seal installer j 21128 for 8 5/8 inch ring gear axles or the Axle Shaft seal installer j 29713 for 9 1/2 inch ring gear axles. Apply wheel bearing lubricant to both the axle bearing and seal before installing the Axle Shaft making sure the lock fits snug against the Differential side gear. Secure the pinion shaft while using loctite 242 to maintain thread seal on its screw. The procedure ends with filling the axle with fluid then removing safety stands and lowering the vehicle after putting back the rear axle carrier cover, Brake Drum and wheel and tire assembly.
