2002 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2002 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Before starting pad installation check brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Need no fluid removal when the level reaches halfway but drain some fluid when it exceeds maximum-full point. Lift up the vehicle and unscrew both the tire and wheel parts from their place. To fix the rotor onto hub you should apply manual pressure on a wheel nut to the stud. Place an old Brake Pad or wood block against the caliper pistons while you tighten a large c-clamp against the brake caliper rear part when the piston has cleared the brake rotor. Use heavy mechanic's wire to hold the brake caliper up then remove the upper guide pin bolt from it. Lower the caliper and store it aside without breaking the hose connection to view the brake pads and Brake Pad retainers. If you find damage on the caliper slide boots replace them with new ones. Put back the large c-clamp to push down the caliper pistons fully and then take it away with the old Brake Pad. Put the Brake Pad retainers and new pads into place making sure the Brake Pad wear sensor rides behind the brake rotor when it turns in one direction. Lift the brake caliper into position at the mount and apply the upper guide pin bolt until it reaches 31 nm of force (23 ft. Lbs.). Place the wheel back on and lower the vehicle before applying the brake pedal to 2/3 of its range while slowly releasing pressure as the engine stays off. Reactivate the brake pedal 15 times to make the brake caliper pistons and pads become tightly engaged. After filling the brake reservoir you need to use the pads and rotors to smooth off their surfaces.
