2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2010 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: The replacement process of the Camshaft Position Sensor begins with disconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector from its connection to the camshaft position (CMP) sensor wiring harness jumper. Next, remove the Water Pump. You should begin by extracting the cmp sensor bolt before removing the sensor together with its wiring harness jumper from the engine front cover. First remove the cmp sensor from the wiring harness jumper and afterwards disconnect the cmp sensor wiring harness jumper from its junction with the cmp sensor. Before using an existing cmp sensor for reinstallation install a new o-ring sealing component on the sensor. The cmp sensor attachment should go onto the wiring harness jumper before connecting the cmp sensor wiring harness jumper to its location. Apply clean engine oil to the o-ring after which position the cmp sensor along with its wiring harness jumper on the front engine cover yet follow all fastener safety instructions. Attach the cmp sensor bolt while torquing it to 10 nm (89 lb in). The last step is to reconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the cmp sensor harness jumper before reinstalling the Water Pump.
